Als einer der letz\u00adten \u00fcber\u00adle\u00adben\u00adden Rit\u00adter der TAFEL\u00adrun\u00adde<\/a> lege ich nat\u00fcr\u00adlich gro\u00ad\u00dfen Wert auf eine sau\u00adbe\u00adre Tafel:<\/p>\n

Ohne Abzie\u00adher (squeegee<\/em>) <\/em>geht tafel\u00adputz\u00adm\u00e4\u00ad\u00dfig schon mal gar nichts:<\/p>\n

In einer der ers\u00adten Stun\u00adden demons\u00adtrie\u00adre ich kor\u00adrek\u00adtes Tafel\u00adwi\u00adschen und \u2011abzie\u00adhen, das Gan\u00adze nat\u00fcr\u00adlich gleich auf Englisch:<\/p>\n

You take the spon\u00adge, <\/strong>go to the sink<\/strong>, open the tap<\/strong> and make the spon\u00adge<\/strong> wet. Then you squeeze<\/strong> it so that it does\u00adn\u2019t drip<\/strong> any more and clean the board. After that you take the squeegee<\/strong>, move it hori\u00adzon\u00adtal\u00adly<\/strong>  and hold the spon\u00adge under the squeegee so that it cat\u00adches the water. Do NOT move the squeegee ver\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly <\/strong>other\u00adwi\u00adse the\u00adre will be ugly sta\u00adins<\/strong> on the floor.<\/p>\n

Was sagt \/ ruft \/ br\u00fcllt man eigent\u00adlich auf Eng\u00adlisch, wenn man kurz vor Ver\u00adlas\u00adsen des Klas\u00adsen\u00adzim\u00admers noch den \u201eTafel\u00addienst<\/strong>\u201c an sei\u00adne Auf\u00adga\u00adbe erin\u00adnern will? Paul Webs\u00adter, ein bri\u00adti\u00adscher Mut\u00adter\u00adsprach\u00adler, meint dazu:<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think it is com\u00admon for pupils to be given this job in Bri\u00adtain. I think the tea\u00adcher usual\u00adly cle\u00adans the board. On an ad hoc basis, the tea\u00adcher might say, \u201ePeter, clean the white\u00adboard for me plea\u00adse, will you?\u201c<\/p>\n

Black\u00adboards in Bri\u00adtain are clea\u00adned with a \u201aboard rub\u00adber\u2018, which is made of a thick pad of felt atta\u00adched to a pie\u00adce of var\u00adnis\u00adhed wood about 2\u2033 by 7\u2033.<\/p>\n

Water is not invol\u00adved, and Bri\u00adtish class\u00adrooms \u2013 other than sci\u00adence labs \u2013 do not have sinks. The board is more tho\u00adrough\u00adly clea\u00adned by the caret\u00ada\u00adker or clea\u00adning staff from time to time. Bri\u00adtish schools have never had the type of height-adjus\u00adta\u00adble black\u00adboard used in Ger\u00adma\u00adny, alt\u00adhough Bri\u00adtish black\u00adboards often do have fol\u00adding panels at each side. One com\u00admon type is the rol\u00adler board, espe\u00adci\u00adal\u00adly in maths rooms and sci\u00adence labs. This type has fle\u00adxi\u00adble panels, some of which are plain black while others are are squared. One of the panels could be a white\u00adboard or pro\u00adjec\u00adtion screen.<\/p>\n

Howe\u00adver, black\u00adboards have been on the way out for many years, and in recent years Bri\u00adtish schools have been busi\u00adly going over to inter\u00adac\u00adti\u00adve whiteboards.<\/p>\n

I only real\u00adly remem\u00adber the fol\u00adlo\u00adwing from pri\u00adma\u00adry schools. Pupils who do class\u00adroom jobs can be cal\u00adled \u201athe x moni\u00adtor\u2018, whe\u00adre x stands for the name of the job they have to do \u2013 e.g. a lit\u00adter moni\u00adtor would be in char\u00adge of making sure the\u00adre was no rub\u00adbish lying around.<\/p>\n

So your pupils could be cal\u00adled \u201ablack\u00adboard moni\u00adtors\u2018 (or \u201awhite\u00adboard moni\u00adtors\u2018). Alter\u00adna\u00adtively you could just call them \u201aboard clea\u00adners\u2018. At the end of the les\u00adson you could say, \u201eBoard clea\u00adners, (time to) do your job.\u201c Ano\u00adther rele\u00advant expres\u00adsi\u00adon might be, \u201eWho\u2019s on board clea\u00adning duty this week?\u201c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I do not know of any spe\u00adcial term for \u201eKrei\u00adde\u00adab\u00adla\u00adge\u201c. If pushed, I would say chalk rest or chalk shelf. Howe\u00adver, in class I would say to a pupil, \u201eDon\u2019t put the chalk on my desk. Put it back whe\u00adre it goes.\u201c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
